Zach Lyman

Founder, Managing Partner

Reluminati Founder and Managing Partner Zach Lyman is a serial entrepreneur who has spent over 25 years exploring emerging technology domains and their ramifications on the human experience.

A world-class sailor, Zach grew up immersed in the marine industry at Lyman-Morse, a renowned boatbuilder on the coast of Maine with a 100-year tradition of craftsmanship and building custom yachts for discerning owners around the world. LM’s skilled craftspeople combine cutting-edge technology with time-tested techniques to create exceptional sailing and motor yachts. In 2005, Zach helped develop Lyman-Morse Technologies, a new division that leverages Lyman-Morse's expertise beyond the sea. Today LMT offers advanced composites, fabrication, and prototyping for a range of industries, commercial partners, and the US Government. Zach’s lifelong love for the ocean has led to many adventures over the years including a global circumnavigation, trans-Atlantic passages, and numerous ocean races.

Fearless curiosity and adventure are also at the heart of Reluminati’s culture. Leveraging Reluminati as a venture studio, Zach founded ZeroBase Energy in 2006 to create flexible, micro-grid energy solutions for those that exist beyond the traditional energy grid. Zach oversaw product development and system deployment across the most remote areas of 5 continents, delivering reliable and affordable renewable energy in the harshest climates. After securing multiple rounds of institutional investment and growing the company sales pipeline to sustainability, Zerobase was acquired by a private equity group in 2009.

For the past four years, Zach has been deeply immersed in understanding the transformative impacts artificial intelligence (A.I.), autonomous systems, and the ever-present nature of data (Ubiquitous Data) are having on societies globally.  These projects have encompassed the entire spectrum of A.I., across a range of domains and modalities. From powerful generative A.I. platforms, to networks of tiny, resource-efficient models operating in constrained environments, explorations are rooted in hands-on project work wherever possible in order to create true insight into A.I.'s rapid evolution.

Previous to Reluminati and Zerobase, Zach was a co-founder of Innovative Charitable Solutions (ICS), a consultancy that created and maintained emerging technologies for non-government organizations, and worked for Frogdesign in San Francisco, a global company that specializes in the fusion of product design, brand, and digital media. In 2005 Zach was winner of the EcoVentures International Environmental Innovation Award and he is a former board member of Groundswell.org, which focuses on providing community solar access for lower income communities in the U.S.

Zach is a graduate of Wesleyan University.
